In her book “Communion” bell hooks writes “Rather than moving inward, they struggle to please, becoming what others want them to be.” She goes on to explicate that it is important for us to tell the truth in order to break down human self delusion and isolation. “Truth telling enables us to break through pretense and deception.” We must continually wrestle ourselves from the ties society places upon us and tune inwardly to listen to our heart’s song.
